Doctors (Primary Care)
Primary care appointments are best-suited to address common illnesses (e.g., colds and fevers) and receive an initial diagnosis—particularly if you're unsure about which specialist to see. Convenient options are also available for check-ups and vaccinations.
Medical Specialist
Specialists typically specialize in different subfields of medicine. If you already know the type of care you require, you can schedule an appointment with a specialist without the need to visit a primary care doctor.
Hospitals
Patients primarily visit a hospital in the U.S. to manage serious illnesses, have surgery, and/or receive inpatient care. You typically cannot walk into a hospital for outpatient care (aside from emergency room visits), and hospital costs for medical treatment are generally high. Many routine surgeries are often performed in hospitals.
Urgent Care
Urgent care facilities primarily treat urgent medical situations, such as a broken finger or severe abdominal pain. Most urgent care centers are part of a chain and hire physician assistants, and prices at these facilities are typically lower than those associated with emergency room care.
Walk-In Clinics
Walk-in clinics in the U.S. can help diagnose and treat minor injuries or illnesses, accepting patients on a walk-in basis with no appointment required. Check-ups, vaccinations, and medical appointments are very convenient at these locations.
Emergency Room
Emergency rooms primarily treat serious medical conditions such as sudden heart attacks or injuries resulting from a car accident. If you aren’t experiencing a severe medical emergency, you’ll want to visit a clinic or consult a general practitioner/specialist instead.
Various doctors and clinics vary in their area of expertise, meaning you can make your final appointment selection depending on your own unique needs.
Some common specialties include Family Practice, Nurse Practitioner, Internal Medicine, and General Practice: specialties typically suitable for general medical appointments, check-ups, and vaccinations.

Step 2. Explore Appointment & Healthcare Visit Processes

After selecting your preferred in-network hospital/doctor, you can schedule an appointment by referring to the contact information provided on the website. Tigerless Insurance policies utilize the Aetna PPO Network, specifically the Aetna Passport to Healthcare Primary PPO Network.
When visiting the doctor, remember to bring your insurance card and a photo ID.
In-network clinics will directly submit your bill to the insurance company, and it typically takes about 20 days for direct claims processing. The insurance company will then send an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) to both the clinic and the insured, explaining insurance reimbursement details, and then pay covered expenses directly to the medical facility.
After the medical facility receives payment for expenses covered by the insurance company, they will send a paper bill and/or electronic bill to the insured. Once the insured has reviewed the amount they need to cover (as indicated in the EOB) and confirmed its accuracy, they can proceed with the final payment.

In-network visits mean direct billing to the insurance, with no need to file claims. Claims will need to be filed when you are billed upfront or use out-of-network providers.
